Almost from the start of Marine Drive, at the Crossens roundabout, through to the end at the Coastal Road roundabout near Birkdale. The path continues and is skiable beyond this point but it becomes much narrower, with barely enough width for a rollerskier to pass a cyclist.
Crossens to Birkdale approx 5 miles
Good tarmac surface designated for multi-use. No problem with leaves, but wind-blown sand can sometimes be a hazard. Very flat, but sometimes have to work hard to ski against the wind in one direction.
Runs alongside a main road, but there is plenty of width, so less confident skiers can stay well away from traffic. Occasional kerbs but all have dropdowns and at the stretch near the pier, there is a choice of crossing a roundabout on foot or using a length of rippled concrete surface on rollerskis.
Free parking at the Marshside RSPB Reserve or various paid car parks along Marine Drive. Plenty of restaurants and ice cream vans around the pier area. Short distance to Southport town centre.
