The TV mast supply road, north of Horwich up to the top of Winter Hill.
GR SD 656 130 to 657 150, OS Sheet 109.
2.5km and a 120m rise.
Private supply road for the Winter Hill TV mast; it is also a bridleway, so access is not a problem. A reasonable surface.
The return trip is not recommended because of the gradient. Occasional walkers on the road and one cattle grid.
Facilities in nearby Horwich.
Suitable for uphill training. If walking boots are taken in a sack, then a moorland walk can be an enjoyable option for coming down; there are a number of paths to select.
